A Little About US

The Democratic Socialists of America is a political organization dedicated to creating an America where working people can govern themselves, instead of being beholden to corporations and rich elites.

The way we create that America is by creating dual power organizations: organizations run for workers, by workers, which can represent their interests in government. These are unions, aid groups, and civil rights organizations. In Boise DSA, we build six kinds of worker organizations:

Labor unions

Helping workers organize and negotiate for better pay, benefits, and conditions. A union is the most effective way for workers to negotiate for fair treatment.

Cooperative enterprises

Empowering tenants to negotiate for reasonable rent and good conditions. Workers are stronger than slum lords and can demand safe and affordable housing.

Worker cooperatives

We help workers start worker-owned businesses, or purchase business from retiring owners. When companies are run by the people who work there, they treat people fairly.

Mutual aid groups

Building community networks where neighbors share resources and support one another through crisis—food, housing, health care, legal help, and more.

Civil rights organizations

Supporting oppressed communities—black, Indigenous, immigrant, queer, disabled, and others—that organize for safety, freedom, and self-determination.

Socialist political work

Running political education, campaigning for laws that shift power toward workers and tenants, and recruiting and supporting openly socialist candidates.

At an Inquirers meeting we'll share more about which of these forms of organizing are active in Idaho right now and where you might want to plug in.
